2026 HOC Paddle Planning and Pairing Meeting

As we reflect on the many adventures we had a chance to share this past season, we’re looking forward to getting a head start on the 2026 Paddling Season.

The Paddling Committee would like to thank Lise Sorensen for again providing us with her company’s boardroom for this event.

Objectives

To populate the 2026 Tentative Paddling Calendar of day and extended trips
To pair up individuals to co-lead trips
To streamline the process, please pair up ahead of time with a fellow member and come prepared with ideas for potential trips
If you as an individual have an idea for a trip but aren’t yet comfortable with the process, and are interested on seeing how it works, we welcome your input.

Format

We’ll begin the meeting by familiarizing the group with the various aspects of being a leader.

Grading trips with the Trip Rating Tool
Shoreline Safety meeting
Paddling Safety rules
Paddle Canada 1-6 leader to participant ratio for day trips, 1-4 for overnight trips
Float Plan
Filling out the Trip/Budget sheet
Assessing the ability level of the individual participants (pre-trip meeting for extended trips)
