Cost: This is a two-part registration and a
ticketed event for both RBG members and non-RBG members. Free for RBG members with membership card and photo ID. Otherwise, it’s $12.30 each ticket plus parking of $10. Please note the RBG cancellation policy – tickets are non-refundable.
Step 1: Register for the hike through the www.Haltonoutdoorclub.ca
Step 2:
RBG Members: Open link https://secure.rbg.ca/overview/5937 to get into the Arboretum registration page. Sign into your RBG account (log-in button at top left). Scroll down to May 21. Click on ‘purchase’ ticket to bring up the next screen. Scroll down to the ‘Member: Adult $0.00’ to add your ticket. Click ‘Add to cart’. At the next screen, click on ‘Select your parking’. Scroll down to May 21. Add member parking for the 9 – 10:30 time slot. There should be zero charge. Complete order and bring the confirmation email with the QR code along with your RBG membership card and photo ID. BOTH an Arboretum parking registration and an Arboretum ticket are required.
Non-RBG Members: Register through the Royal Botanical Gardens at: https://secure.rbg.ca/overview/5937
Following similar steps above, but you’ll be paying for a ticket into the Arboretum ($12.30) and a parking spot at the Arboretum ($10). BOTH tickets are required. Bring the confirmation email with the QR code to the hike. Note – tickets are non-refundable.
Parking and meeting spot:
RBG Members: Show your RBG membership card and photo ID at the main entrance to the Arboretum.
Non-RBG Members: Show your booking receipt at the main entrance to the Arboretum.
You’ll be directed by RBG staff to a parking lot. Request to park in the circular lot. We’ll meet at the south side of the parking lot near the outdoor pavilion. Should you be directed to park elsewhere, still meet us at the outdoor pavilion.

Moderate. Wide asphalt gravel trail to begin. Several hills, loose stones/rocks/tree roots/boardwalks and narrow trail in places.

HIKE GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Point of interests
Experience one of the largest and most diverse lilac collections in the world. The marsh boardwalk is also a highlight as we take in the wildlife from the lookout at Cootes Paradise. The hike winds its way through forest and the marsh with several lookouts ending with a leisurely stroll amidst the heavenly fragrance of the RBG’s stunning lilac collection.
REGISTRATION REQUIRED
Yes. A Must. Leaders appreciate early registration and at least 24 hours before the event.
CANCELLATION
• If your plans change, please self-cancel as soon as possible so that other HOC members may take your spot.
• The club may cancel due to bad weather that may impact the safety of participants or due to low attendance.
ONLINE REGISTRATION &
HIKER GROUP SIZE
Registration opens April 21st. Up to 15 Hikers are welcome to participate in this event.
WHAT TO BRING
• Wear supportive hiking boots with good tread. Hiking poles may be helpful.
• Dress in layers according to weather; wear/bring waterproof rainwear.
• Bring snacks and enough water for the duration of the hike.
• Sun and bug protection if necessary.

RBG has limited spots during Lilac season and pre-registration with RBG will be necessary for non-RBG members.
GUIDING NOTES:
HIKE PACE - Leisure: 3 km/hr or less. Moderate: 3-4 km/hr or Fast: 4-5km/hr. All paces are an average and will depend on the terrain and weather. Rest stops are not included in the overall pace.
TERRAIN - Easy: mostly flat and usually good footing (i.e. rail trails, Confederation Park, Bay Front Park), Moderate: some hills and/or poor footing (Bruce Trail, Dundas Valley, etc.) and Challenging: steep long hills and strenuous footing (some parts of the Bruce Trail, some trails in Short Hills, up and down the escarpment). Please note variations can be expected with wet or icy conditions.
Attention Non-Members: If you are thinking about becoming a member, The Halton Outdoor Club invites you to take part in up to two (2) club activities as a Non-Member. After that, please join our club so we can welcome you as a member. Registration is required for all events and you will have to agree to the waiver of participation when registering.
Attention Past Members: You are not entitled to two trial activities. Please renew your membership to take advantage of all that the Club has to offer.
