MEETING PLACE OR PARKING LOCATION

Dundas Valley Conservation Area. Enter at the Main Gate, drive to the parking lot and walk 300 meters to meet at the Trail Centre (former train station). It takes a few minutes to walk from the parking lot to the Trail Centre. Dundas Valley Conservation Area - Google Maps Entrance at the main gate is $11 per vehicle if you do not have an annual pass. You do not need to book ahead just pay at the gate by credit card.

Moderate to Challenging. Expect quite a few hills as is typical in the Dundas Valley

Combination of loop and “out and back”.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Points of Interest

We will hike into the north section of the Dundas Valley (primarily on the other side of Hwy #99) on the McCormick and adjacent trails. The McCormick Trail offers a magnificent view of the escarpment, Dundas, Hamilton and Lake Ontario.  

REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Yes. A Must.  Leaders appreciate early registration and at least 24 hours before the event.

CANCELLATION

   If your plans change, please self-cancel as soon as possible so that other HOC members may take your spot.

   The club may cancel due to bad weather that may impact the safety of participants or due to low attendance.

REGISTRATION OPENS

Two weeks before the hike A maximum of 15 hikers may register

WHAT TO BRING

   Wear supportive hiking boots with good tread. Hiking poles will be helpful.

   Dress in layers according to weather

   Carry waterproof rainwear, snacks and plenty of water

   Sun protection if necessary

GUIDING NOTES:

HIKE PACE -  Leisure: 3 km/hr or less. Moderate: 3-4 km/hr or Fast: 4-5km/hr. All paces are average and depending on the terrain.

TERRAIN - Easy: mostly flat and usually good footing (i.e. rail trails, Confederation Park, Bay Front Park), Moderate: some hills and/or poor footing (Bruce Trail, Dundas Valley, etc.) and Challenging: steep hills and strenuous footing (Bruce Trail, some trails in Short Hills, Dundas Valley and Red Hill Valley). Please note variations can be expected with weather conditions.
