HIKING 101 FOR BEGINNER HIKERS

Two-part course for members only

1.  Presentation and Q&A - 1 hr approx. with Anne Armstrong

2.  Go for a hike on the Bruce Trail with the 3 experienced hike leaders

DATE & TIME

Sunday April 30th, 2023. MEET at 9:45 am for a 10:00 am course start.

COURSE OBJECTIVE

The course will prepare you, the new or beginner hiker, for a safe and comfortable hike. Learn how to prepare your equipment, what to bring, what to wear for a day hike.

Put everything you have learned into practice and go for a hike with the leaders after the presentation.

City View Park, Burlington

Meet at the community building at City View Park, 2500 Kerns Rd, Burlington. The parking lot is accessible by driving on Dundas St. to Kerns Rd, go south and turn into the 1st parking lot closest to Dundas St.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

A presentation with an introduction of the basic skills, knowledge and attitudes required to be safe while you are on the trails participating in a day hike.

Be prepared for a safe and comfortable hike: how to prepare your equipment, what to bring, what to wear.

Put everything you have learned into practice and go for a hike with the leaders after the presentation.

CANCELLATION

·       If your plans change, please self-cancel as soon as possible so that other HOC members may take your place

·       The club may cancel due to bad weather that may impact the safety of participants or due to low attendance

WHAT TO BRING

  Prepare and bring your backpack for a day hike including your First Aid Kit

  Water, lunch, snacks

  Pen, pencil, paper

  Wear comfortable clothes and hiking shoes

  Bring poles

Covid recommendations will be observed. All participants are encouraged to use a mask while in the class.
