DISTANCE

 Approximately 9 kms, depending upon trail conditions and possible route changes due to conditions.

PACE:

Leisurely / Moderate / Fast

Moderate - 3/4 kms/hour

DURATION APPROX

Two and a half to three hours

TERRAIN:

Easy / Moderate / Challenging

It is in the valley.  Some "ups and downs", generally good footing, wide trails.

TYPE OF HIKE:

i.e. loop or out and back

Out and back with a loop in the middle.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Point of interests

This hike is along the Spring Valley trail, connecting to the Headwater trail followed by a loop at the West end of the trail. There should be some good views across the valley now the trees are bare. Note: The route may have to be modified due to weather and/or trail conditions. Washrooms are not available on this hike.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Yes. A Must.  Leaders appreciate early registration and at least 24 hours before the event.

CANCELLATION

If your plans change, please self-cancel as soon as possible so that other HOC members may take your spot.

The club may cancel due to bad weather that may impact the safety of participants or due to low attendance.

REGISTRATION OPENS

Between 1-2 weeks before the hike. Up to 15 hikers are welcome.

WHAT TO BRING

Wear supportive hiking boots with good tread.

Bring hiking poles and icers.

Dress in layers according to weather.

Bring snacks and water.

IMPORTANT COVID REMINDERS

The club’s Covid-19 Safety Guidelines will be observed. 

GUIDING NOTES:

HIKE PACE -  Leisure: 3 km/hr or less. Moderate: 3-4 km/hr or Fast: 4-5km/hr. All paces are average and depending on the terrain.

TERRAIN - Easy: mostly flat and usually good footing (i.e. rail trails, Confederation Park, Bay Front Park), Moderate: some hills and/or poor footing (Bruce Trail, Dundas Valley, etc.) and Challenging: steep hills and strenuous footing (Bruce Trail, some trails in Short Hills, Dundas Valley and Red Hill Valley). Please note variations can be expected with weather conditions.
