With hiking, cycling, kayaking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing activities, the Halton Outdoor Club offers recreational opportunities outdoors year round. This not-for-profit, primarily volunteer-run organization mainly serves members from the Golden Horseshoe, where many activities originate, but exciting active travel opportunities to destinations farther afield are also offered.

Stay Active All Year Round

Every month of the year there are opportunities for members to be active and energized together outdoors.

Ski Lessons and Clinics

Lessons and Clinics in cross-country skiing are offered for beginners, those getting back into the sport and anyone who wants to improve technique. Lessons are taught by experienced skiers and certified instructors during scheduled day trips.

Day Trips

The Club offers a variety of day trips within a reasonable driving distance of the Halton Region. There is no cost to members unless a bus is needed (e.g., to get to reliable snow conditions) and/or trail fees, parking fees or entrance fees apply.

Friendly, Supportive Community

Meet other outdoor enthusiasts and be part of a friendly, inclusive community of active adults. Everyone participates at their own level and no one is left behind. Many lifelong friendships have been forged in this Club. Specific social events like an annual multi-sport picnic are planned but many sport activities also include a social component.

Travel Opportunities

Members have had the opportunity to participate in extended trips within Canada and around the world. Because the Club is not-for-profit and volunteer-based, these trips generally offer good value as well as an opportunity to get to know other members on a whole new level.

Stay Informed

The information on the website is augmented by the Club’s quarterly electronic Newsletter, which takes a fond look back at the good times we’ve had, and the more frequent emailed Updater which alerts members to upcoming events.

Retailer Discounts

Several local retailers offer HOC members a discount on certain goods and services as well as valuable guidance on equipment, clothing and accessories suitable for specific sports. See the list of Retailers who support us.

Bus to Ski & Snowshoe

Because snow conditions in and around the Golden Horseshoe are unreliable, the Club uses coaches to take members on day trips to ski resorts in the Barrie and Collingwood areas where we enjoy groomed, marked trails for cross-country (Nordic) skiing, skate skiing and snowshoeing. While riding in comfort, we have additional opportunities to get to know other members. Bus fare and trail fees apply.

Multi Day Getaways

One day is not enough when destinations are more than a couple of hours away. These trips may involve one or more overnights. Accommodation is generally in hotels, but many paddling trips involve camping.

All Skill Levels

The Halton Outdoor Club offers opportunities to participate at a variety of skill levels from beginner to more advanced. What we all have in common is a love for the outdoors and a willingness to learn and participate in a friendly, safe, supportive environment.

Kayak Lessons

Safety is paramount when kayaking with HOC. We offer a variety of lessons (including pool, lake and Paddle Canada certification courses) provided by the Ontario Sea Kayak Centre (OSKC) throughout the season. Beginner- to intermediate-level lessons build skills in rescue methods, paddle strokes and risk management.
