We can only anticipate what the trip conditions will be prior to the trip; and they are subject to change based on the weather information for that day; therefore, the overall trip rating and the required skills needed to safely attend the trip, may be upgraded on the day of the trip. This eventuality includes the possible cancellation for some or all its participants; or the postponement of a trip for the following day. Important Trip Details |
Welcome to part 2 of our leadership training! If you thought part 1 was intriguing, just wait until you see what we have in store for you.! Guiding this excusion is Barry Butcher of Textured Waters Paddling, who is highly regarded by the club for his expertise and teaching style.
If you are looking to start leading your own trips and are not sure what you need or do, then this training will provide insight and education on numerous topics and areas to help you achieve that goal. These include navigation, boat handling, rescue techniques, and incident scenarios, all while in a dynamic environment. We will review strokes and boat handling tips, work on trip planning, and daily information, introduce decision making, group awareness and control, incident management (theory and practical) along with environmental awareness. Each day will have a number of scenarios, group talks and lots of time to try your hand at leading a group.
A kayak helmet is a manditory requirement for this trip.

Trip Safety Requirements, What to Bring |
Kayak with sealed fore and aft bulkhead compartments;
Inflatable boats are not permitted;
A properly fitting PFD or lifejacket must be worn at all times while in your kayak; Inflatable PFDs are not permitted
Sutable paddling outerwear for the enviroment.
closed tow shoes for both on the water and at camp, no flip flops
One (1) buoyant sea kayak tow belt;
One (1) manual bilge pump and
One (1) paddle float;
One (1) pealess whistle;
If paddling before sunrise or after sunset or in periods of restricted visibility like fog, one (1) all-round light (A light showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 360 degrees);
For multi day trips, one (1) magnetic compass (handheld or deck),
One (1) map case and CHS chart # 2204 Bing Inlet to Kilarney; A kayak safety helmet One spare paddle per participant;
A spray skirt is required;
Each participant must have completed their wet exit practise within the past 2 months
All necessary camping gear to be self sufficent.
A first aid kit.

Additional expenses may arise on this trip and the participant assumes the financial responsibility. These are costs which have not been factored in the trip budget and will typically, but not exclusively, entail unforeseen expenses, such as evacuation, ambulance, treatments, food lodging due to illness. |

Payment in full. No refund unless your spot is filled from the waitlist and a $25.00 cancellation fee will apply.
