    Important Trip Details The trip begins with an overnight stay on Thursday at Wolf Den Nature Retreat, located just outside Algonquin Park.
    Accommodation includes two shared bunkies(2 ppl each) and two private rooms in the Main Lodge Hostel (1/rm).

    On Friday morning at 7:30 a.m., we will drive to Algonquin Outfitters on Lake Opeongo to transfer kayaks and gear onto the water taxi.
    No need to load gear into the kayaks as all goes in hull of taxi.
    Upon arrival at the East Arm campsite (sites cannot be reserved, though we hope to be near Annie’s Bay), we will unload and set up camp.
    Unloading may occur in shallow water to transport gear to and from campsite.
    Friday activities may include a short exploratory paddle and an evening paddle.

    Saturday will be spent exploring Annie’s Bay, subject to campsite location.
    Sunday will begin with a sunrise paddle, followed by campsite breakdown.
    Water taxi pickup is scheduled for approximately noon, with an estimated departure from Algonquin Outfitters at 2:00 p.m. after unloading.

    Trip cost to include 1 night at Wold Den, camping fees and water taxi.

    Algonquin Park day parking passes are required for the three days in the park at the participant's own cost @ $12.43/day, $9.94/day-senior rate (August 21, 22 and 23) to be purchased in advance or one can use a seasonal Ontario Parks Pass.
    This cost is not included in the trip fees.

    Trip fees include accomodations at Wolfden (1 night), camping (2 nights) and water taxi to and from East Arm, Opeongo Lake.

    Trip is self sufficient, meaning participants are responsible for their own food, water, camping/sleeping and cooking equipment.

    An introductory meeting will take place 2 weeks in advance virtually with registered participants to address any last minute details or questions.

    Trip Safety Requirements, What to Bring Kayak with sealed fore and aft bulkhead compartments unless the paddle has been specified to permit recreational boats;
    Inflatable boats are not permitted;
    A properly fitting PFD or lifejacket must be worn at all times while in your kayak; Inflatable PFDs are not permitted:
    One (1) buoyant heaving line at least 15 m (49’3”) long;
    One (1) bailer OR One manual bilge pump;
    One (1) pealess whistle;
    If paddling before sunrise or after sunset or in periods of restricted visibility like fog, one (1) all-round light (A light showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 360 degrees);
    For multi day trips, one (1) magnetic compass (handheld or deck);
    For kayaks over 6m (19’8”): One (1) watertight flashlight with working batteries AND Six (6) flares of Type A (Rocket parachute flare), Type B (Multi Star flare) Type C (Hand flare) Type D (Smoke Signal), however, only two (2) can be Type D;
    A minimum of one spare paddle per 2 participants;
    A spray skirt is required unless you are in a recreational boat (a boat which lacks either a fore or aft sealed bulkhead) or on a Grade A trip;
    Each participant must have completed their wet exit practise within the past 12 months

    Incidental Costs Additional expenses may arise on this trip and the participant assumes the financial responsibility.     Ice Cream Treats evening strolls -- It’s all about getting the most out of our always too short Ontario summers!  Join your fellow HOC members for some exercise and fresh air, walking and talking and of course, stopping for an ice cream treat.

     

    Starting at the Locust Street parking lot, we will proceed through Spencer Smith Park and along the waterfront trail to the Burlington lift bridge.  This will be an out-and-back walk, with a return stop at Lakeshore and Brant Street where you will have your choice of several establishments serving delicious ice cream and very yummy gelato.

    Consider bringing a lawn chair or towel in your car in the event that other seating options are not available.

    Westdale Ravine: is a deeply incised sand-plain ravine featuring a spring-fed creek and some of the tallest trees on the RBG property.

    Add the joy of ‘discovery’ to your hike. The Discovery Series is all about exploring hidden secrets, whether it’s in your surroundings, something hidden in the past, or perhaps even something about yourself!

    Come and learn about how the Bruce Trail Started, how to read blazes, trail maintenance, land acquisition and stewardship and other fun facts of interest from long time former Iroquoia Bruce Trail Club Board member Paul Toffoletti.

     

    We will start the hike down in the Red Hill Valley and climb up the escarpment to walk around the Albion Falls gorge in the form of a loop. Then descend back down and return to where we started.

    Riding Surface:  The trails are mostly flat and well groomed (paved, stone dust, packed gravel). Routes are predominately off-road or on signed bicycle lanes. There may be a few kilometers of road cycling required. 

    Description:  Join us for trail rides along multiple scenic waterways in the Montérégie region south of Montreal. Each cyclist will be responsible for their own transportation. Our first stop will be Salaberry-de-Valleyfield (3 nights). We will enjoy 3 days of riding in and around this historic region of Quebec.  We will spend the second half of the trip (3 nights) in St-Jean-du-Richelieu exploring the Richelieu River and surrounding countryside.

    Enter and pay at the Main Gate on Highway #99. Drive to the main parking lot and then walk 300 meters to meet at the Trail Centre (former train station). It takes a few minutes to walk from the parking lot to the Trail Centre, so give yourself extra time. If you do not hold an annual pass, entrance at the main gate is $11.50 per vehicle, $9.50 for seniors. Pay at the gate by credit card

    Points of Interest and Special Notes

    We will start by completing the McCormack Loop in the north section of the Dundas Valley (primarily on the other side of Hwy #99). This loop offers a magnificent view of the escarpment, Dundas, Hamilton and Lake Ontario. After a brief stop back at the Trail Centre we will do the Main Loop, always a crowd pleaser, though hardwood forest and escarpment terrain.

    A minimum of one spare paddle per 2 participants;

    HIKE PACE - Pace refers to the speed of walking. Rest stops are not figured in to the overall pace, however they are figured in to the Duration of the Hike. These paces represent an average and may vary depending on the terrain, weather, group size, etc.

    Important Trip Details Every morning we will confirm itinerary as we evaluate weather conditions.
    We will be driving to paddle in nearby lakes, Lake of Two Rivers, Canisbay Lake, Source Lake and Cache Lake.
    We will be driving to the launch sites, which will be within 30 minutes of our campground at Canisbay Lake
    Parking fees, if any, at the launch are not included in the trip.
    We will have opportunities to hike and swim, please bring appropriate gear.
    Maximum number of tents on each campsite is 3 on 3 sites (max 6 people).
    Maximum number of cars per site is 2.
    Additional cars will park in common parking areas.
    Campsite parking is not included in the trip fee and to be paid by the participants.
    Firewood is not included and must be purchased from the campground.
    We will share the cost of firewood for a fire each evening.
    Participants are self sufficient for food.
    Quality of cell service is unknown and is dependent on your service provider.
    There are bathrooms, showers in the park.

    Trip Safety Requirements, What to Bring Kayak with sealed fore and aft bulkhead compartments unless the paddle has been specified to permit recreational boats;
    Inflatable boats are not permitted;
    A properly fitting PFD or lifejacket must be worn at all times while in your kayak; Inflatable PFDs are not permitted:
    One (1) buoyant heaving line at least 15 m (49’3”) long;
    One (1) bailer OR One manual bilge pump;
    One (1) pealess whistle;
    If paddling before sunrise or after sunset or in periods of restricted visibility like fog, one (1) all-round light (A light showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 360 degrees);
    For multi day trips, one (1) magnetic compass (handheld or deck);
    For kayaks over 6m (19’8”): One (1) watertight flashlight with working batteries AND Six (6) flares of Type A (Rocket parachute flare), Type B (Multi Star flare) Type C (Hand flare) Type D (Smoke Signal), however, only two (2) can be Type D;
    A minimum of one spare paddle per 2 participants;
    A spray skirt is required unless you are in a recreational boat (a boat which lacks either a fore or aft sealed bulkhead) or on a Grade A trip;
    Each participant must have completed their wet exit practise within the past 12 months

    Incidental Costs Additional expenses may arise on this trip and the participant assumes the financial responsibility.     Trip Safety Requirements, What to Bring Kayak with sealed fore and aft bulkhead compartments unless the paddle has been specified to permit recreational boats;
    Inflatable boats are not permitted;
    A properly fitting PFD or lifejacket must be worn at all times while in your kayak; Inflatable PFDs are not permitted:
    One (1) buoyant heaving line at least 15 m (49’3”) long;
    One (1) bailer OR One manual bilge pump;
    One (1) pealess whistle;
    If paddling before sunrise or after sunset or in periods of restricted visibility like fog, one (1) all-round light (A light showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 360 degrees);
    For multi day trips, one (1) magnetic compass (handheld or deck);
    For kayaks over 6m (19’8”): One (1) watertight flashlight with working batteries AND Six (6) flares of Type A (Rocket parachute flare), Type B (Multi Star flare) Type C (Hand flare) Type D (Smoke Signal), however, only two (2) can be Type D;
    A minimum of one spare paddle per 2 participants;
    A spray skirt is required unless you are in a recreational boat (a boat which lacks either a fore or aft sealed bulkhead) or on a Grade A trip;
    Each participant must have completed their wet exit practise within the past 12 months

    Please note the club does not provide equipment. If rentals are noted above, it is at the expense of the club member. Please read the details.
    Trip Cost Per Participant There is no cost to sign up for the trip, however,
    there is an additional cost of $30 to pay for a shuttle.

    The participant pays for a kayak rental $70 incl shuttle, should you decide to rent one from Free Spirit Tours. Please reach out to them and have your payment ready upon arrival.
    Incidental Costs Additional expenses may arise on this trip and the participant assumes the financial responsibility.     SilverStar Winter Sports Trip

    The Club is heading back to SilverStar to enjoy one of our favourite winter destinations.  This trip is ideal for experienced x-c skiers and there are excellent opportunities for snowshoeing and downhill skiing along with tubing, fat biking, skating, and more!

    We will stay at the Vance Creek Hotel and Conference Centre located in the heart of the SilverStar village.  All rooms have a kitchenette and are double occupancy. This year, two rooms are available for single occupancy on a first come, first served basis.

    COST

    • $3,210 per person for double occupancy
    • $4,350 for single occupancy (two spots available)


    REGISTRATION

    There are two parts to the registration.  You must complete Part One before Part Two.  All details are provided in the Trip Information Sheet.
