NEWFOUNDLAND “ICEBERGS ARE CALLING”

Bay of Exploits

July 5-11 2020

Leader: Sandy Nay

Newfoundland is recognized as one of the most diverse parts of Canada. A blend of traditional living communities sprinkled with mystery and one of the truly wild places left in Canada. This section of the coastline has been chosen for its beauty, whales, abandoned villages and massive icebergs.

The day time temperatures will reach around 15-20 degrees C, night time temperatures 8-12 degrees. The trip is planned with minimum Level 1 Paddle Canada skills, 12-14 nautical miles per day (6 hrs.). 20-25km’s @ min. 4km pace = 5-6 hrs. per day.

Trip proposal is based on 5 days paddling from a different camp each night. Each day we will explore the coastline around the Bay of Exploits, look for icebergs and whales in addition to landing each day in remote area to explore villages. This is weather dependent.
